Decorative copper sculpture, fish art and marine life wall décor is used for interior décor in not only seafood restaurants but in home and office décor. Many building projects today specify sculpture in fountains, entries, as weathervane’s and many other suitable locations where the identity of the structure can be personalized. I think everyone of us likes that personal touch to our homes and work places and art whether its two or three-dimensional gives use a sense of balance in our lives. Many times I will be contacted by someone who has an idea for a piece of sculpture for their home and it is always a challenge to create a piece of art from an idea that someone has and to be able to incorporate my vision as well. Commissions are accepted based on the theme and materials used. I choose to sculpt in copper, steel, stainless steel and some hardwoods with most of my work being based on marine life. Currently I’m creating fish in copper using coppersmith type technique’s of heating, hammering and welding or forging copper sheet and rod material into fish of all sizes and species. Some of the recent projects include a Blue Fin Tuna that is eight feet in length, a Jew Fish six feet in length, both being three-dimensional and hammered from copper. The coloring of the copper is a process of heating and cooling to create a heat patina on the surface. Most all of the copper sculpture that I create has a heat patina with a clear coating to protect the surface. The colors are from deep blue, green, gold, silver and black and are bright and vibrant. Stainless steel and steel are the materials that I use in the stabiles and other outside sculpture. The sculpture titled “Feeding” is a stabile twelve feet tall and the top rotates with the wind, its theme is schooling fish. Its exterior finish is applied over a sandblasted surface and will last for many years. The stainless steel version has a polished and mat finish, which requires no maintenance, but lacks the brilliance of patina’s or a painted surface.
